Co-hosts Canada have become the first team to book a place in the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup following a dramatic 1-0 victory over South Africa.

The tightly contested encounter in Houston appeared destined for a goalless draw, with both sides unable to break the deadlock for the full 90 minutes, but Canada snatched the winner in the first minute of stoppage time through captain STEPHEN EUSTAQUIO.

The midfielder controlled the ball with his chest before firing a superb half-volley into the far corner to seal a memorable victory for Jesse Marsch’s side.

The result sends Canada into the knockout stage, where they will face either Morocco or the Netherlands in Houston in six days’ time as they continue their World Cup campaign.
