Portugal recorded a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Nigeria in an international friendly yesterday, overcoming the Super Eagles with a late winner in a closely contested encounter.
Nigeria entered the match seeking a notable result against the former European champions after securing a 2-2 draw with Poland a week earlier, but Portugal struck first and took control of the early exchanges.
The hosts opened the scoring through PEDRO NETO, who capitalised on space inside the penalty area before firing a clinical finish past the Nigerian goalkeeper to give Portugal the advantage.
Despite falling behind, the Super Eagles responded strongly and restored parity before halftime, with Forward AKOR ADAMSproducing an impressive individual effort, powering through the Portuguese defence before finishing confidently to level the score at 1-1.
However, Portugal found a decisive breakthrough in the closing stages of the match, when FRANCISCO CONCEICAO cut inside from the flank and curled a superb effort into the net to secure a dramatic late winner for Portugal.
