The All Progressives Congress in Rivers State has commenced the hearing of petitions filed by aspirants contesting the outcome of the screening exercise for the 2027 Rivers State House of Assembly elections.
The appeal process began yesterday at the party’s state secretariat in Port Harcourt, where an Appeal Committee received 19 petitions from aggrieved aspirants seeking reconsideration of their disqualification from the upcoming primaries.
Chairman of the Appeal Panel, ABDUL MAHMUD, said the committee was established to independently review complaints arising from the screening conducted over the weekend by the party’s Screening Committee.
MAHMUD dismissed allegations that the exercise was manipulated by internal party factions, especially claims that aspirants aligned with Rivers State Governor, SIMINALAYI FUBARA , were deliberately targeted, assuingparty members as well as stakeholders that the appeal process would be transparent, fair and strictly based on the documents submitted by aspirants during screening.
Recall that 32 aspirants reportedly linked to the camp of Governor FUBARA failed to scale through the screening process.
