NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT NAMES 16 PERSONS INVOLVED IN ALLEGED COUP PLOT AGAINST PRESIDENT TINUBU.

The Nigerian Government has disclosed the identities of military officers, police personnel, and civilians allegedly involved in a plot to forcefully topple President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The alleged coup plotters includes; former Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva, who is reportedly on the run, as well as Major General Mohammed Gana, Captain Erasmus Victor, Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim, Zekeri Umoru, Bukar Goni, and Abdulkadir Sani.

In a 13-count charge filed yesterday at the Federal High Court by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and signed by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, the suspects are accused of conspiring to wage war against the Federal Republic of Nigeria in a bid to remove President Tinubu from office, an offence punishable under Section 37, subsection 2 of the Criminal Code.

The Federal government also alleged that the defendants committed treason, acts of terrorism, failure to report security intelligence, and money laundering tied to terrorism financing.

The accused persons are expected to be arraigned on April 22 before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
