The Nigerian Armed Forces has revealed that some officers will be arraigned before a military judicial panel to face trial over an alleged plot to overthrow the government.

The army,  in a statement issued yesterday, January 26, 2026, by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, noted that the arraignment follows the conclusion of  its investigation into sixteen military officers arrested in October 2025, adding that the investigation report has been forwarded to the appropriate authorities in line with existing military regulations.

According to the statement,  findings showed that some of the officers were involved in activities inconsistent with the ethics and professional standards of the military, including allegations of attempting to undermine constitutional authority.

The army emphasized that the measures being taken are purely disciplinary and part of ongoing institutional mechanisms to preserve order.
