The arewa consultative forum (ACF) has dismissed suggestions that northern voters would support a southern presidential candidate offering a one-term pledge for the 2027 elections. acf national publicity secretary professor tukur muhammad baba stated this position during an appearance on arise tv’s the morning show on thursday.

Baba emphasized that while former president goodluck jonathan remains respected, the idea of a predetermined single term undermines democratic principles. he argued that voters should decide whether any president deserves a second term, rather than having such decisions made through political negotiations.

The statement comes amid speculation about a potential pdp ticket featuring Jonathan and former Kano governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as a north-south pairing. some view this as an attempt to balance regional power-sharing traditions while creating broad national appeal.

Political analysts note these developments reflect intense behind-the-scenes negotiations as major parties begin strategizing for the 2027 polls. the ACF’s position signals potential challenges for any candidate seeking northern support based on term-limit promises rather than policy platforms.
