The Governor of Enugu State, PETER MBAH, yesterday unveiled the state-owned airline, Enugu Air, describing it as a major milestone for the state and a model example of collaboration between the government and the private sector.

Speaking at the launch of the inaugural flight of the state-owned airline which took off yesterday, MBAH said Enugu Air represented more than just an airline as it symbolises a bold step in creating the right enablers for enterprise and opening up sectors that once felt out of reach.

Although the launch took place several weeks after the second anniversary of his administration, MBAH referred to it as a deserving gift to Ndi Enugu, stressing that this milestone aligned with his administration’s vision of transforming Enugu into a premier destination for investment, living, and tourism in Nigeria.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, FESTUS KEYAMO, addressed public concerns about the Enugu airport, explaining that the airport was not being sold but concessioned to private investors which he said was supported by President BOLA TINUBU, the aviation ministry and national assembly committees.

KEYAMO also disclosed plans to transfer the management of the Enugu airport to private investors who would help make the facility fully operational, including the cargo terminal, adding that exports would now be processed directly from Enugu through the cargo terminal, which would benefit the people and create employment opportunities.
