Meanwhile, the Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, DCMAC, Associate Prof. Salome Ezeofor, who was also present at the training, said the training was well impactful, hence the need for all establishment, be it public or private, to engage the Fire Service Officers to train the Management and Staff of their companies for a better safety of lives and properties from any fire incident.

Urban Radio Correspondent, Ifeyinwa Ogbue, reports that the highlight of the training is the practical session, where the staff took part in the use of fire extinguisher to put off fire, after the demonstration by two fire officers, Peter Anike and Christian Ngwu on the proper use of Fire Extinguisher in a fire outburst.

One of the foremost Non-Governmental Organization, Women’s Aid Collective, WACOL, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, asking for his intervention in the alleged murder of a 4-year old girl, Zinachukwu Ugwu, on 18th August 2024, at about 11.30pm at their residence in Umu-nwa-nwa village, Orba Road, Nsukka, Enugu State.

Briefing newsmen in her office on the activities of WACOL in the last one year, the Executive Director and Founder of the rights organization, Professor Joy Ezeilo, SAN, who used the opportunity to give an update on the alleged murder, said they are solicitors to. Ndubuisi and Loveth Ugwu, parents of the 4-year-old Zina who was brutally killed in her sleep, by one Nweke Chukwuemeka.

Continuing, Professor Ezeilo said the petition to the IGP became necessary because his client is not satisfied with the result of the investigation, which did not indict the Landlord of the said premises, who reportedly prevented men of the vigilante group from accessing the place of the incident and who, being aware of the notorious nature of the suspect gave him accommodation, and also managed a beer parlour close to the said premises where known criminals used to gather, alongside the suspect from time to time; adding that the wife of the Landlord was also reportedly complicit, acting as a pointer for the suspect in the cause of the incident.

Narrating their ordeal to journalists, mother of the slain girl, Loveth Ugwu recalled that prior to the killing of her daughter, a co-tenant Nwanyocha had taken forceful custody of her other child, adding that the child was being searched for hours around their premises; but the said tenant kept quiet until she heard her child’s voice and when she raised alarm, the co-tenant claimed that she was giving the child a punishment for wasting her water.

Corroborating the story of his wife, Ugwu, a Lecturer at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, said he was convinced that the Landlord is allegedly connected to the brutal murder of his child because the landlord was aware of Nweke’s criminal and destructive nature and tendencies; adding that Nweke, the suspect, openly confessed that the Landlord had paid him one million naira to commit the crime..

Urban Radio Correspondent, Emeka Chibuoke who was at the press briefing reports that other allegations brought against the landlord of the premises of the crime was that he attempted to bribe Ugwu to drop the case in the presence of his brother, Augustine Onyishi, his lawyer, Barrister Aro, Ikechukwu Ikenyi, and Augustine Azoka; alleging further that the Landlord promised to offer him five hundred thousand naira to remove the side of his involvement from the case.
