The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, KANAYO UZUEGBU, has reaffirmed the ban on the sale and unauthorized use of fireworks, commonly known as “knockouts”, “bangers”, or “crackers”, during this festive season.

A statement by the police public relations officer in the state, DANIEL NDUKWErevealed that the prohibition was designed to prevent criminals from exploiting fireworks to commit crimes, reduce public panic, and mitigate risks to lives and property.

The Commissioner further cautioned against indiscriminate bush burning during this harmattan season, underscoring the legal consequences and the grave risks of fire outbreaks, which could endanger lives, destroy property, and disrupt the social and economic well-being of the community.

He urged residents of Enugu State to avoidactions that could jeopardize their safety and security during the yuletide and beyond, whilealso encouraging the public to report suspected criminals and their activities to the nearest police station.
