The Chairman of the House Committee on Power Magaji Da’u has blamed reoccurring National Grid collapse on obsolete infrastructure inherited by the Transmission Company of Nigeria TCN.

Da’U, in his statement yesterday when he fielded questions from newsmen after a reception in his honor on the completion of his Ph.D. program in Birninkudu on Sunday, said he isn’t trying to depend on TCN, but they’ve inherited old infrastructure.

The lawmaker who represents Birnin Kudu/Buji Federal Constituency of Jigawa said TCN doesn’t even have a scanner in the country to monitor what happens, lamenting that up to last month, they could not even access their network in Shiroro because of banditry.

He said that the House of Representatives plans to hold a public hearing on October 22 to seek stakeholders’ views on the issue but expressed opposition to calls for the privatization of the TCN.
