10 Killed, 35 Injured in New Orleans Attack; Suspect Linked to ISIS Killed in Shootout.

A driver, flying an ISIS flag from his pickup truck, had yesterday, drove his vehicle into a crowd celebrating New Year’s Day in New Orleans’ French Quarter and began shooting, resulting in 10 deaths and over 35 injured persons.

The incident took place at 3:15 a.m. local time at the intersection of Canal and Bourbon Streets, a famous tourist spot in the French Quarter of the city, renowned for drawing large crowds with its music and bars.

The police officials said the suspect, identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42 year old U.S. citizen from Texas who once served in Afghanistan, swerved around barricades, fired at the police and struck two police officers from the vehicle after it crashed, adding that the perpetrator was killed during a shootout.

FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge, Alethea Duncan said a potential explosive device was found in the vehicle, while two suspected explosive devices were found in the French Quarter.
