Nigeria reignited their CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title defence with a determined 1-0 win over Zambia in Rabat yesterday, despite playing most of the encounter with 10 players.
ASISAT OSHOALA netted the only goal in the eighth minute at Al Madina Stadium as the Super Falcons bounced back from their surprise opening defeat to Malawi with a display marked by discipline, resilience and determination.
Nigeria were reduced to 10 players in the 40th minute after OLUWATOSIN DEMEHIN was shown a red card, forcing the team to defend their slender advantage for the remainder of the contest.
The victory keeps Nigeria’s hopes of reaching the quarter-finals alive after Malawi’s 3-1 win over Egypt earlier in the day increased the pressure on the reigning champions.
