The senator representing Kogi Central, NATASHA AKPOTI-UDUAGHAN, has expressed concern over the significant drop in the number of senators elected under the Peoples Democratic Party, noting that the party has lost 31 lawmakers in the Senate due to its ongoing internal crisis.
AKPOTI-UDUAGHAN spoke of the weekend in Abuja during the inauguration of the PDP convention committee, an event viewed by party leaders as a vital move toward restoring unity and repositioning the opposition ahead of upcoming elections.
In a statement released by her media aide, MIKE IDOKO, the lawmaker highlighted that the extent of defections have undermined the PDP’s strength in the Senate.
However, she expressed hope that the inauguration would serve as a turning point for the party’s revival.
In his remarks, the chairman of the PDP 2026 National Convention Committee and former Abia State Governor, OKEZIE IKPEAZU, called the event a defining moment in the party’s journey and urged stakeholders across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to back the renewal process with discipline and collective purpose.
