Red Cross Enugu Launches Disaster Risk Reduction Club at CPS Okpanku to Strengthen Flood Preparedness

The Nigerian Red Cross Society, Enugu Branch, in collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, IFRC, has launched a Disaster Risk Reduction, DRR Club at Community Primary School, CPS, Ihuibe, Okpanku, Aninri Local Government Area, LGA, aimed at raising awareness and equipping students with skills to mitigate flood disasters and promote preparedness.

Speaking during the launch at CPS Okpanku, the Enugu Branch Secretary of the Society, Tony Udegbu, emphasized that the inaugurated members of the DRR Club have been equipped with the necessary skills to mitigate flooding in their communities.

Consequently, the Red Cross society Enugu Branch, Disaster Management Officer, Nwafor Florence, noted that Red Cross is focused on early warning actions and preparedness to ensure that students and club members are well-equipped with the knowledge and skills to respond effectively during flood incidents within their school.

Also, the CPS Head Teacher of Ihuibe Okpanku, Chukwu Ego, expressed her appreciation to the Red Cross and its partner organization, assuring them of proper monitoring of the club’s activities and monthly evaluation reports.

The event featured series of disaster rescue demonstrations and interactive sessions on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation CPR, safety, and hygiene practices to be adopted during flood incidents.
