A Professor of Vocational Teacher Education, and immediate past Director of Quality Assurance and Servicom, Enugu State University of Science and Technology ESUT, Abigail Alio, has identified technical and vocational education as the engine of national development.
Professor Alio made these submissions at the 48th Inaugural Lecture of Enugu State University of Science and Technology, titled, “Technology and Vocational Education as Pathway for Self- Reliance in the Informal Sector of the Economy: The Role of 21st Century Teachers” and held at Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah Multi-Purpose Auditorium, ESUT,.
Reiterating the fact that technical and vocational education is at the hub of national development, the distinguished professor recommended that government and stake holders should give priority attention to national development by allocating adequate human, material and financial resources to achieve its objective of being an instrument for attainment of self-realization, and national efficiency.
Declaring the event open, the host and Vice Chancellor of ESUT, Prof. Aloysius Okolie, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof Chike Nwoha reiterated that inaugural lectures have become a tradition for professors in the citadel of learning to distinguish themselves by showcasing to the world their research findings, achievements and milestone that announce them as distinguished academics of repute.
The next inaugural lecturer, Professor Adonai Okechukwu, a Professor of Business administration while commending the 48th inaugural lecturer for delivering a well research lecture; assured that his inaugural lecture, the 49th in the series, would be meet the high expectation of the university community.
Urban Radio Correspondent, Emeka Chibuoke reports that the highlights of the inaugural lecture include the presentation of 50 copies of the inaugural lecture booklets, a plaque and certificate to the 48th inaugural lecturer Prof. Abigail Alio by Prof. Mellitus Ezeamenyi, Chairman of the ESUT Inaugural Lecture Committee, as well the handing over of cheques of N1.5 each to Prof Alio and Prof Ikenna Ndu, courtesy of chairman of the Governing Council.
