Nigeria is set to bolster its defence infrastructure with the deployment of artificial intelligence-powered surveillance systems and advanced anti-drone technology as part of efforts to modernise the nation’s military capabilities.
The Minister of Defence, CHRISTOPHER MUSA, disclosed this during a high-level visit to Monaco, Spain, where he led a Nigerian delegation to conclude discussions on the multi-domain Hybrid Intelligence Shield project.
MUSA explained that the initiative is aimed at strengthening border security, safeguarding urban centres and improving the country’s response to emerging security threats.
The project is expected to introduce artificial intelligence-driven surveillance systems capable of rapidly detecting threats through smart algorithms, while anti-drone technology will be deployed to intercept and neutralise unmanned aerial threats.
Nigeria has continued to face multiple security challenges in recent years, including insurgency in the North-East, banditry and kidnappings in the North-West, farmer-herder clashes in the North-Central region, and crude oil theft in the Niger Delta, among others security challenges
