President BOLA TINUBU has approved a salary review for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, increasing their pay by between 30 and 80 per cent, with about 250,000 officers and soldiers set to benefit from the new package.
In a statement, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, BAYO ONANUGA, said the revised salary structure will take effect from September 1.
The statement noted that the revised remuneration will increase the annual salary bill for armed forces personnel from 660 billion naira to 924 billion naira.
It further stated that the President remains committed to enhancing the welfare of troops and providing the military with the weapons and technological equipment required to combat banditry, kidnapping and terrorism.
Under the arrangement, officers above the rank of Colonel will receive a 30 per cent increase, Colonels to Warrant Officers will enjoy a 50 per cent increase, while Privates to Staff Sergeants will receive an 80 per cent salary increase.
