President Bola Tinubu has approved a monthly transport allowance of 70,000 naira for public servants at all levels, following a meeting between the Federal Government and the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, as the union’s four-day ultimatum to shut down the economy over rising fuel prices and the minimum wage dispute ended yesterday, October 27.
The agreement was reached during a meeting between the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingyadi, and the NLC leadership, led by Joe Ajaero.
The Federal Government said the transport support would begin on November 5, 2026, and continue for six months to ease the impact of rising living costs on workers.
The government also approved the payment of outstanding peculiar allowance arrears from May 1, 2026, in three equal monthly instalments, starting in November.
Meanwhile, both parties agreed to establish a negotiation committee that would begin meetings immediately to determine an effective date for implementing a new national minimum wage.
