Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, PETER OBI, has defended his movement across political parties, insisting that his decisions have always been guided by principle rather than personal ambition.
Speaking during an interview, OBI explained that his political journey; from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and later to the Labour Party, was influenced by his unwillingness to tolerate internal crises and what he described as “transactional politics.”
He stressed the need for systemic reform, stating that Nigeria must confront and dismantle entrenched political malpractice.
Addressing criticism over his frequent party changes, Obi said his exit from APGA was a deliberate move to prevent internal disagreements from disrupting governance in Anambra State, adding that certain practices within the PDP were inconsistent with his values.
Despite his engagement with political figures across party lines, including those now associated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC, he maintained that current commitments should take precedence over past affiliations, arguing that ongoing political realignments are part of broader efforts to build a credible opposition capable of delivering accountable leadership.
