The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State has stated that the decision of its national leader, RABIU KWANKWASO, to step down did not catch the party off guard.

In a statement released yesterday by its Publicity Secretary, IBRAHIM KARAYE, the party acknowledged receipt of KWANKWASO’S resignation letter, noting that his exit had been expected.

The NNPP explained that the development is linked to ongoing talks among opposition groups seeking to build a united front, with the aim of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress and steering the country in a new direction.

While confirming his departure, the NNPP commended KWANKWASO for his contributions over the past three years, describing his leadership as instrumental in the party’s growth, including securing positions such as a state governor, seats in the National Assembly, and representation in state legislatures.

The party also extended its best wishes to KWANKWASO, expressing hope for his success in future political pursuits, including the 2027 general elections.
