NIGERIAN NAVY RECOVERS 39,500 LITRES OF STOLEN CRUDE IN RIVERS

The Nigerian Navy has intensified its campaign against crude oil theft under Operation Delta Sentinel, recovering 39,500 litres of suspected stolen crude oil and destroying illegal storage facilities in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The Director of Information, ABIODUN FOLORUNSHO, disclosed in a statement that the operation was carried out by personnel of the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Bonny, following credible intelligence and uncovered concealed dugout pits hidden within the creek environment during the operation.

FOLORUNSHO, revealed that a detailed assessment of the site led to the discovery of four dugout pits, one large and three medium-sized, with three of the pits containing an estimated 39,500 litres of products suspected to be stolen crude oil, while the fourth was filled with water.

He explained that the discovery highlights the continued use of hidden storage facilities by crude oil theft syndicates to stockpile stolen products before transporting them through illegal 

He added that the illegal storage facility and the recovered products were handled in accordance with established operational procedures, while surveillance in the area has been strengthened to prevent the return of similar illegal activities.
