LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT RESTATES BAN ON FIREWOOD AND CHARCOAL FOR COMMERCIAL COOKING

The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed that the ban on the use of firewood for commercial cooking is still in effect, warning that businesses that violate the directive could face sanctions, including the closure of their premises.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA, BABATUNDE AJAYI, restated the government’s position during a one-day workshop organised for bakery operators across the state to promote environmental compliance and encourage healthier food production practices.

AJAYI recalled that the state prohibited the use of firewood for commercial cooking several years ago, stressing that the policy remains fully in force.

He explained that the enforcement will be carried out in phases, beginning with public sensitisation before stricter penalties are imposed on operators who continue to violate the directive.
