KWANKWASO OPPOSES TINUBU’SMUSLIM-MUSLIM TICKET

The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), RABIU KWANKWASO, has defended himself against allegations of extremism, reaffirming his opposition to a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket, and expressed confidence that the NDC ticket of PETER OBI and himself will emerge victorious in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during an interview yesterday while responding to questions about a proposed United States bill that reportedly mentioned his name in connection with allegations of religious persecution and communal violence, KWANKWASO dismissed the claims as politically motivated, maintaining that the allegations lacked merit.

On the issue of a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket, KWANKWASO said religion would remain a major factor in the 2027 elections, expressing surprise that President BOLA TINUBU was again presenting a Muslim-Muslim ticket and further insisted that Nigeria’s diversity makes a balanced ticket more desirable.

He also explained that Nigerians, particularly young people, are more interested in leaders who can improve their living conditions than politicians who appeal to ethnic or religious sentiments, arguing that critics of the NDC alliance are out of touch with the realities facing northern Nigeria.

On concerns that ongoing legal challenges involving the NDC could affect the party’s participation in the 2027 elections, KWANKWASO expressed confidence that the courts would not bar the party from contesting.
