INFANTINO SUFFERS FIRST RE-ELECTION SETBACK AS WELSH FA WITHDRAWS SUPPORT

The Football Association of Wales has ended its support for FIFA President GIANNI INFANTINO’s re-election campaign, becoming the first national football federation to publicly withdraw its backing for his leadership.

In a statement, the Welsh FA announced that it had withdrawn its endorsement of INFANTINO’s bid for the 2027–2031 FIFA presidency, citing concerns over governance, leadership and stakeholder management.

The federation said it no longer had confidence in INFANTINO and accused FIFA of failing to place the interests of football above all else.

However, INFANTINO is still expected to contest the FIFA presidential election in Rabat, Morocco, in March 2027 despite mounting opposition.
