Inspector-General of Police OLATUNJI DISU has unveiled a 14-day special security operation aimed at eliminating criminal elements from identified flashpoints across Benue State.
DISU announced the operation at a security town hall meeting in Makurdi attended by Governor HYACINTH ALIA, PROFESSOR JAMES AYATSE, security chiefs and other key stakeholders.
The police chief said insecurity in Benue has escalated beyond farmer-herder clashes, noting that kidnappers, armed gangs and political interests have further complicated the situation.
According to DISU, President BOLA TINUBU has ordered that the security challenges in Benue must no longer be tolerated, adding that only authorised security personnel are allowed to bear arms as the recovery of illegal firearms will be stepped up.
The Inspector-General called on residents to report criminal activities and cases of police misconduct, assuring them that all complaints against officers would be thoroughly investigated to enhance security in the state.
