IGP DIRECTS TOP POLICE PERSONNEL TO PROTECT PROTESTERS NATIONWIDE.

The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun has directed top police personnel to protect intending participants of the planned End Bad Governance and hunger protest slated for August 1 2024.

 Egbetokun had last week, requested the names and other details of intending participants of the forthcoming protest as a condition to ensure the safety of all participants and prevent any unlawful activities, but several Nigerians vehemently rejected such a condition.

 Additionally, a Human Right Lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa had on July 26, 2024, written a letter to the IGP on behalf of the Take It Back Movement, one of the groups planning the protest, urging the IGP to provide police coverage for protesters.

In response, the IGP, in a letter issued yesterday, July 29th, through his Principal Staff Officer, CP Johnson Adenola, directed the Deputy Inspectors-General of Police in charge of Operations and Intelligence; the Assistant Inspectors-General of Police in charge of Zonal Police Headquarters alongside the Commissioners of Police in charge of State Commands across the country to attend to the request of the senior lawyer.

Egbetokun further requested to have a meeting with Adegboruwa in Abuja today, July 30, to deliberate further on his request.
