The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to making security a priority, leveraging the skills, knowledge, experience, connections, and financial resources of Nigerians living abroad as key resources for national development and strengthening strategic partnerships based on mutual respect and trust.

This was contained in a statement issued yesterday by the Special Assistant, Media and Strategic Communications to the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, RICHARD ELESHO, who quoted the minister, SOLA ENIKANOLAYE, as making the remarks during an address at the Dinner Night of the Nigerian Diaspora Economic Conference in Toronto, Canada.

The minister acknowledged that security remained a major challenge but said the current administration was doing everything humanly possible to ensure that it contained these challenges, which had persisted in a multifaceted manner for years.

He said the strategic engagement was designed to produce core, concrete and positive outcomes in security, defence and the welfare of the Nigerian people.

On the Nigerian diaspora, the minister stressed that under the leadership of President BOLA TINUBU, the government considered Nigerians living abroad not as a burden but as important contributors to national development.
