The people of Isiogbo-Nara community in Nkanu East Local Council, Enugu State, have raised concerns over escalating insecurity in the area, calling on the state government to intervene urgently.

The community, during a peaceful protest, had placards with inscriptions such as;’Bring back our CSO’, Justice for JOE’, decrying  that they are now living in fear as many can no longer  visit their farms due to frequent attacks by hoodlums.

The  President-General of the community, Sunday Chukwu, who spoke to newsmen, expressed sadness over the deteriorating security situation, and narrated how several incidents of abduction and murder in the community have created fear and uncertainty, forcing some residents to flee.

Chukwu, who presented documents to buttress his points, revealed that the incidents have been reported to the police, with petitions written to the governor and the chairman of Nkanu East Local Council, Sydney Edeh, but police investigations are yet to yield tangible results, as suspects allegedly connected to the incidents were released without resolution, while he also appealed to the Enugu State Governor to intervene by directing the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 13, to ensure thorough investigations.

Similarly, the Former community President-General, Reverend Patrick Nwoye, added that the area has remained tense since the attacks, with residents unable to move freely and called for urgent government action to restore peace and security.

Meanwhile, Helen Aniedo, mother of the slain security officer, Joseph Aniedo, as well as the wife of the abducted community’s chief security officer, Emeka Eze tearfully recounted the separate incidents, and called on relevant authorities to ensure justice is served.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, when contacted said the command did not receive reports of such incidents, while the Local government chairman of Nkanu East, did not respond to his calls nor messages.
