The Enugu State Electricity Regulatory Commission, EERC, says it is taking steps to resolve the sudden electricity supply shortages that have plunged parts of the state into an acute power outage.
Recall that MainPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited had last week issued a statement where it blamed the development on the drastic reduction of power being supplied it by the parent company, the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, following EERC’s decision to slash electricity tariff for Band A from 209 to 160 naira per kilowatt-hour.
But EERC in a Public Notice it issued yesterday, said it met with both EEDC and MainPower, assuring that it was taking the necessary steps to restore normalcy.
During the meeting, MainPower addressed the challenges they faced in separating the State’s coverage area from the rest of the states under EEDC, and referred to these issues as ‘code coverage conflicts and related glitches,’ but gave assurance that the issue would be sorted out soon..
Drawing from Section 34 (2)(b) of the Enugu State Electricity Law of 2023, the Commission pledged to ensure that MainPower generates adequate revenue to cover their efficient operational costs in the State.
