DANGOTE Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has reduced the price of aviation fuel, Jet A1, to 1,650 naira per litre from 1,750 naira per litre, in a move aimed at easing cost pressures on airlines and ensuring steady fuel supply nationwide.
The price adjustment was disclosed in a statement issued by the company, which noted that the development also includes a 30-day interest-free credit facility supported by bank guarantees for marketers and airline operators, as well as a transition from a dollar-denominated pricing structure to a naira-based model.
The interventions come amid increasing concerns over the rising operational costs confronting domestic airlines, with aviation fuel accounting for a major share of airline expenses.
Industry stakeholders have repeatedly warned that the continuous increase in Jet A1 prices is placing heavy financial pressure on operators and threatening the sustainability of flight operations.
The refinery’s decision is expected to offer relief to airline operators by reducing fuel procurement costs, enhancing operational stability, and supporting efforts to moderate airfares.
