Atletico Madrid, secured a crucial 2-0 victory over Barcelona in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash at Camp Nou.

DIEGO SIMEONE’S side came into the encounter determined to avenge their recent league defeat to the Catalan giants, and despite early pressure from the hosts, Atletico took control of the match following a key turning point.

Barcelona’s PAUL CURBASI was shown a straight red card for a last-man challenge, and from the resulting free-kick, JULIAN ALVAREZ opened the scoring for the visitors.

Atletico capitalized on their numerical advantage in the second half, with ALEXANDER SORLOTH doubling the lead to hand his side a strong advantage ahead of the return leg.
