The African Democratic Congress has criticised the Federal Government’s plan to reintegrate former insurgents into society, describing the move as a dangerous display of leniency towards terrorism.

In a statement issued yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, BOLAJI ABDULLAHI, the party expressed concern over remarks by government officials who reportedly referred to insurgents as “brothers” and “prodigal sons,” while promoting their reintegration.

It argued that such language reflects a poor understanding of the gravity of terrorism, stressing that it should not be trivialised or likened to family disputes.

The ADC stressed that adopting what it described as a soft tone and prioritising rehabilitation without ensuring accountability undermines justice and weakens the fight against insurgency, insisting that the government’s approach lacks coherence, as it could be both ineffective and harmful.

Highlighting what it sees as contradictions in the government’s stance, the ADC noted that while authorities claim to be prosecuting a war against terrorism, they are simultaneously pursuing policies that could return former insurgents to society without clear judicial processes or safeguards.
