At least six Nigerian soldiers, including a senior military commanding officer holding the rank of Major, have been killed following a violent ambush by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in Yobe State.
The deadly assault occurred near Kanamma village in Yunusari/Geidam Local Government Area along the volatile border corridor.
Security sources and local reports indicate that the military patrol convoy came under intense fire after being targeted with explosive charges planted along the transit route:
Initial Detonation: An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) struck the lead patrol vehicle carrying the commanding officer and three personnel, killing them instantly.
Sustained Gunfire: Following the blast, hidden insurgents opened fire on the remaining vehicles in the convoy, resulting in additional military casualties during the ensuing exchange of gunfire.
Heavy Terrorist Losses: Surviving troops mounted a counter-attack, inflicting heavy casualties on the retreating insurgent group before securing the perimeter.
The strategic Geidam-Kanamma transit axis has experienced heightened insurgent activity, remaining subject to restricted commercial movement due to security threats.
Troops of the 27 Task Force Brigade have intensified clearance operations across the general area to neutralize remaining terrorist cells and prevent further corridor disruptions.
