FG Engages Chinese Power Sector to Boost Electricity Distribution Infrastructure

In a major step toward addressing Nigeria’s long-standing power challenges, the Federal Government has deepened strategic engagements with key Chinese engineering and power sector leaders to expand and modernize the nation’s electricity distribution and transmission infrastructure.

The bilateral high-level meeting—marked by top Nigerian government delegates and representatives of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and China Railway Construction Corporation—focused on converting strategic bilateral agreements into actionable power sector projects.

Accelerating Nigeria’s Energy Transition

Addressing delegates during the strategic mission, Nigerian officials emphasized that technical efficiency in the power value chain is essential to driving economic growth and industrialization across all geopolitical zones.

The government reiterated that collaboration with international power sector heavyweights like CCECC will help modernize key substations, secure high-voltage supply lines, and guarantee standard factory-tested equipment across distribution networks.

With the continuous expansion of generation capacity, the primary goal remains building a stable, reliable distribution network that minimizes losses and supports uninterrupted power supply across the country.
