SOUTH EAST COLLEGES OF EDUCATION PROVOSTS SEEK IMPROVED TEACHER EDUCATION.

The Provosts of Colleges of Education in the South East have called for strategic reforms to strengthen the region’s education sector.

They made the call at the South East Zonal Provosts of Colleges of Education Engagement Meeting with the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), ANGELA AJALA, at the Enugu State College of Education (Technical), ESCET, where they discussed measures to align teacher education with contemporary standards and the evolving demands of the sector.

During the meeting, AJALA highlighted the significance of a good learning environment and well-equipped teachers, and applauded the investment of the Enugu State Government of over 30 per cent of its annual budget from 2024till date in education, while highlighting the need for quality teacher education for the utmost educational output.

While appreciating the Federal Government’s efforts in supporting and modernising education, including the enactment of the Dual Mandate Act by President BOLA TINUBU, she further stressed the importance of the sector in pursuing a better society.

Declaring the meeting open, the Chairman of the State House of Assembly Committee on Education, OSITA EZE, who doubled as the representative of the Honourable Commissioner of Education, Professor NDUBUEZE MBAH, welcomed the Executive Secretary, and highlighted the deliberate commitment of the administration of Governor PETER MBAH to transform education in Enugu State, while further commending teachers and education stakeholders across the state for their dedication and invaluable contribution to the development of human capital.

Earlier in her speech, the host and the school Provost of ESCET, STELLAR EKWUEME, welcomed and appreciated the executive secretary and other participants, underscoring needed reforms for an effective learning experience and the importance of stakeholders’ collaboration.

C MBAM; Provost, Abia State College of Education (Technical), Arochukwu, Professor IDOWU ELUWA; Provost, Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze, VIRGINIA EJEZIE; and Provost, Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, Professor VICTOR NDIRIKA,  among others, and focused on strengthening the shared commitment to aligning and moving the Colleges of Education in the region forward.
