A total number of  2,971    next-of-kin of deceased police officers  have received 2.317 billion Naira from the Nigeria Police Force for  insurance and beneficiaries  of dead police officers.

The cheque was presented to the beneficiaries yesterday by the Inspector-General of Police, OLATUNJI  DISU in Abuja, covering the 2017 to 2025 insurance policy years.

According to him, the payments were legitimate entitlements of police officers who sacrifice their lives in the line of duty, stressing  the force will never forget them nor their families.

He highlighted security challenges in the country which led to the death of some officers including members of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit  who died during a rescue mission in Zamfara State, officers killed at Buni-Yadi, and 10 personnel recently ambushed and killed during an operation in Kebbi.

The IGP sympathized with the family of the fallen officers, stating that although the financial benefits would not replace their loved one,  it represents the institutional responsibility owed to them, urging them to use the funds judiciously, especially for the welfare of their children
