POLICE ARREST 20 SUSPECTS, RECOVER WEAPONS AND HARD DRUGS IN ENUGU STATE

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested 20 male suspects and recovered hard drugs, offensive weapons, 22 motorcycles, a tricycle and other exhibits during anti-cultism and anti-crime operations carried out across the state between July 7 and 14, 2026.

Police Public Relations Officer, DANIEL NDUKWE, said the intelligence-led operations targeted cultism, drug trafficking and other violent crimes in Independence Layout, Emene, Eke Obinagu and Owerre Eze-Oba community in Udenu Local Government Area.

Police said two suspects were arrested at Banana Estate, Independence Layout, while suspected hard drugs, eight motorcycles and a tricycle were recovered after other suspects fled.

The Command also arrested six suspects in Emene and Eke Obinagu, recovering suspected Cannabis Sativa, and cocaine, while 12 others were apprehended during the disruption of the alleged Black Axe confraternity’s 7/7 anniversary celebration in Udenu Local Government Area, where an axe, drum instruments and 14 motorcycles were recovered.

The Command said investigations are ongoing to arrest fleeing suspects and recover more exhibits, while Commissioner of Police BITRUS GIWA urged residents to provide credible information to help combat cultism, drug trafficking and other violent crimes.
