Enugu State Governor, PETER MBAH, has congratulated IKEJE ASOGWA, the winner and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s Enugu North by-election, describing the overwhelming victory as a reflection of the party’s broad acceptance and influence in the state’s political landscape.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), yesterday, declared ASOGWA winner of the senatorial seat previously won in 2023 by Labour Party lawmaker, OKEY EZEA, who died after an illness in November 2025.

The Returning Officer, Professor CHRISTIAN EZEIBE, who announced the result at the INEC office in the Local Government Area, said ASOGWA secured 162,360 votes to defeat his closest challenger, NESTOR EZEME of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 9,299 votes.

Reacting to the outcome, MBAH described the result as a statement victory, noting that the people of the senatorial district had not only chosen quality representation but had also demonstrated strong support for the APC.

The governor congratulated ASOGWA on behalf of the government and people of Enugu State, describing the outcome as a landmark and statement victory for both his administration and the APC.
