Popular Nigerian singer, JOEBOY has said that Afrobeats is currently ongoing through renaissance, emphasising that the genre is being purged of adulterated music.
Speaking midway into his performance at his Valentine’s Day show in Lagos, the ‘Faji’ crooner explained that Afrobeats was returning to real music.
Recall that at the beginning of the 2020s’ decade, the Nigerian music industry saw a heavy fusion of Afrobeats with other genres, especially South Africa’s Amapiano, American hip-hop and R&B.
This led to critics calling for a return to original Afrobeats, claiming that the fusion of foreign genres, often intended to cater for a global audience, has diluted Afrobeats.
The upper chamber said the decision was based on the stark realities of the country and not on emotions or sentiment after due consultation and engagement with principal actors in the country’s communications and power sectors, among others.
