Nigerians have taken to social media to express outrage over the death of aspiring singer IFUNANYA NWANGENE, who died on Saturday after suffering a snake bite, blaming the tragedy on the failure of health institutions to provide lifesaving treatment.

Many netizens argued that NWANGENE’Sdeath could have been prevented if the hospitals she was taken to had antivenom in stock.

The 26-year-old singer, who gained wider recognition after appearing on The Voice Nigeria in 2021 and later showcased her talent on TikTok, was reportedly bitten by a snake at her residence in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory and was rushed to two hospitals that were unable to administer antivenom due to its unavailability.

Reacting to the incident, social media users described the situation as pathetic, noting that NWANGENE’S case only gained widespread attention because of her online popularity, assimilar incidents occur daily across Nigerian hospitals without public notice.

Human rights activist and lawyer, DELE FAROTIMI, lamented the decline of Nigeria’s healthcare system, recalling the past reputation of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan., while a popular health advocate on social media, APROKO DOCTOR, blamed systemic failures for the tragedy, highlighting the scarcity of antivenom even in top-tier medical facilities.
