The University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) in Enugu has initiated an investigation into the death of a patient allegedly caused by negligence of hospital staff on September 21, 2025.

The case involves late CHARITY UNACHUKWU, who was reportedly taken to the emergency unit but was turned away due to a lack of space.

A widely circulated social media report alleged that she was left unattended for approximately 12 hours, citing numerous instances of negligence, indifference, and poor staff conduct that ultimately led to her death.

UNTH’s Public Relations Officer, BONIFACE UCHELUE, stated that the Chief Medical Director has canceled a planned foreign trip to personally oversee a forensic investigation into the incident.

While extending condolences to the deceased’s family, UCHELUE emphasized that the hospital, guided by its motto “Service to Humanity,” takes such allegations seriously, and assured the public that the investigation would be thorough and transparent.
