The Anambra State House of Assembly, during its plenary session yesterday, suspended the member representing Ayamelum Constituency, Bernard Udemezue, for three months.

Udemezue’s suspension followed a post he made on social media where he revealed his allowances as a lawmaker and equally disclosed that he receives 10 million Naira quarterly from the state government for projects in his constituency.

Consequently, a report presented by the House Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics and Privileges chaired by the Majority Leader and member representing Ekwusigo Constituency, Ikenna Ofodeme, recommended Udemezue’s suspension for three months without salary.

The committee referred to Udemezue’s conduct as unparliamentary, and recommended that he should not be seen within the Assembly within the period of the suspension.

However, Udemezue maintained that he did nothing wrong by revealing that lawmakers collect 10 million Naira quarterly for projects in their constituencies, explaining that he only disclosed his earnings to keep his constituents informed about his activities in the Assembly.
