The federal government has announced the disbursement of 50 billion Naira to the academic and non-academic staff unions of federal universities for the settlement of unpaid earned allowances as promised by President Bola Tinubu.

In a statement issued yesterday by the Minister of Education, Maruf Alausa, through the ministry’s spokesperson, Folasade Boriowo, disclosed that the move stands as yet another testament to Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to fundamentally transform Nigeria’s education sector.

The minister said, the intervention is not just a financial transaction but a reaffirmation of the president’s belief in the capacity of Nigerian youth and the invaluable role that academic and non-academic staff play in nurturing them.

Recall that University-based academic unions had frequently clashed with previous governments over issues such as the non-payment of earned allowances and other unmet demands.
