A Human Capacity Development Consultant, LARRY OGUEGO has condemned the demolition of Udoka Golden Point Hotel and Suites, also known as ‘La Cruise Hotel’, by Anambra state government, following a report that Operatives of the newly launched security outfit in the state, AGUNECHEMBA, allegedly uncovered 30 well-partitioned graves and a shrine within the premises of the popular hotel.
OGUEGO who condemned the demolition on the Urban Radio political programme, THE PARLIAMENT, also faulted the new legislation, Anambra State Homeland Security Law signed by the state government, which mandates that a building where criminal activities are carried out within the state will be pulled down, stressing that such legislation is contrary to the provisions of the Nigerian constitution.
He further emphasized the need for thorough investigations, pointing out that judicial processes are the legitimate means of determining a suspect’s fate in the country.
Similarly, OBASI, who called into the programme, referenced the position of the law and suggested that structures used for criminal activities should be converted for public use instead of being pulled down, encouraging individuals whose buildings were illegally demolished without thorough investigation and judicial processes to seek justice in the court of law.
Recall that an aide to the Governor CHUKWUMA SOLUDO of Anambra State, EJIMOFOR OPERA, had confirmed the demolition of the hotel in an interview, stating that the demolition was carried out due to alleged criminal activities within the facility, in line with the Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025.
