The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, has apologized to the broadcast industry, the people of Enugu State and the listening public over the recent invasion of Urban Radio Enugu by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

This is contained in a statement issued yesterday by the Director of Public Affairs of NBC, Susan Obi, in Abuja, expressing the  Commission’s disappointment regarding the October 14 invasion of Urban Radio 94.5FM Enugu by EFCC operatives during the live show, PrimeTime anchored by Favour Ekoh.

The NBC boss said the invasion allegedly intended to arrest the programmes’ presenter, Ekoh, was seen as a gross violation of the professional ethics of broadcasting, particularly during a live broadcast, insisting that the approach to which the arrest was carried out by the anti-graft agency was improper and regrettably condemnable, considering the pivotal impact of the broadcast media on society, stressing that such action could have led to public disorder, disturbance, aggravate mass panic and hysteria.

While acknowledging the EFCC’s efforts in combating financial crimes, the NBC expressed sincere apologies to the listening public, the residents of Enugu State, and the entire broadcasting industry for the incident, urging the public, to be law-abiding while the law takes its course.

She enjoined media professionals across the country, to continue upholding ethical standards while discharging their responsibilities.
