PRESIDENT TINUBU CONGRATULATES ZAINAB BAGUDU ON HER EMERGENCY AS UICC PRESIDENT

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu on her election as President of the Union for International Cancer Control UICC.

Shinkafi-Bagudu, who is a pediatrician consultant and former first lady of Kebbi State, was elected as UICC president for the 2024-2026 term, following the election that was conducted virtually during the UICC General Assembly held on Tuesday, October 8.

President Tinubu, in his congratulatory message yesterday through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, emphasized the historical significance of Shinkafi-Bagudu’s election as the first African and the fifth woman to lead the global cancer control organisation.

Tinubu, while attributing Shinkafi-Bagudu’s emergency to her competence and character, remarked that such significant achievement is a reflection of Nigeria’s increasing influence in global health leadership and further expressed confidence that she would use her new office and leadership, to improve cancer control and global health.

 The Geneva-based Union for International Cancer Control, UICC was established in 1933 and has more than 1,100 member organisations in over 170 countries and territories.
