Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye says the court has acquitted him of 12 cases filed against him by the Nigerian government.
Melaye, who revealed this yesterday on his X account, stated that justice has been served after six years, emphasizing that justice delayed is not justice denied and expressed gratitude to God along with Mike Ozekhome and Ricky Tafa for the outcome, while asserting a stance of no retreat, no surrender.
Justice Sylvanus Oriji of the Federal Capital High Court in Maitama acquitted Melaye of two charges relating to providing false information about an alleged assassination attempt on his life in 2017.
The Office of the Attorney General formally charged Melaye on January 31, 2018, claiming as unfounded, Melaye’s allegations of falsely implicating Edward Onoja, the then Chief of Staff to Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, stating that there was an alleged attempt to assassinate him in his hometown, but Melaye pleaded not guilty on March 1, 2018.
In July 2018, Melaye accused the Kogi State Police command of attempting to kill him after an incident involving his security team and the police during a stop and search operations in Mopa and subsequently in March 2019, he alleged a conspiracy against his life by the Kogi State government, which the state government denied.
