The President of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Joe Ajaero, has been released on administrative bail by the Department of State Services, DSS.

Ajaero, who confirmed his release to journalists said the DSS  allowed him to go home aroundpast 11pm last night after being grilled for about 15 hours since his arrest around 7am at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

He explained that some police officers also came around to grill him at the DSS office in Abuja over the End Bad Governance nationwide protests which took place in August alongside alleged terrorism financing involving a British national, Andrew Wynne. The NLC leader however, said his travel passport was seized by the secret police.

Recall that Ajaero was arrested yesterday by the DSS at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja while en route to attend the Trade Union Congress, TUC, conference at the United Kingdom UK.

His arrest sparked wide criticism from several international groups including Amnesty international, human rights activists, TUC and civic society organisations, who all condemned the arrest of Ajaero by the DSS and faulted President Bola Tinubu’s administration for setting a new record of utter disregard for the rule of law and trampling upon citizens fundamental human rights.
