The Abia House of Assembly has sworn in Aaron Uzodike of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP as lawmaker for Aba North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly.
Recall that a Lagos state court of appeal had on November 27, 2023 declared Uzodike, winner of the March 25, 2023 Abia state Assembly election and further ordered the immediate withdrawal of the Certificate of Return earlier issued to Destiny Nwagwu of the Labour Party by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
But the Abia Assembly did not swear in the PDP lawmaker, even after he received the Certified True Copy of the Appeal Court judgement and despite receiving a Certificate of Return from INEC.
The delay in the swearing-in of Uzodike was attributed to an alleged court injunction and rejection of court ruling by Labour Party members in Abia state, who protested in the streets of Umuahia, thereby dragging the Aba North legislator’s wait to nine months.
However, Clerk of the House, John Pedro Irokansi, administered the oath of office and oath of allegiance on Uzodike during plenary session yesterday, while the Abia state Assembly speaker, Emmanuel Emereuwa, on behalf of other lawmakers congratulated Uzodike, who in turn expressed gratitude to God, alongside Governor Alex Otti and the Speaker for his inauguration, promising to provide good representation to his constituents.
