The Nigeria Labor Congress has debunked rumors making the rounds that it has called off the proposed nationwide protest scheduled for today, after reports had emerged online alleging that the union, after a meeting with government officials, decided to shelve the proposed protest.

NLC in a statement yesterday night by its President Joe Ajaero, said it has neither reconsidered nor suspended the nationwide mass protest, urging Nigerians to ignore the rumor.

Ajaero revealed that the union met with officials of the government yesterday to further press its demands as the effect of the fuel subsidy removal worsens hardship across the nation but the meeting ended in a deadlock as no agreement could be reached.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila has expressed confidence that the labor unions will shift their proposed industrial action, scheduled to begin today.

Gbajabiamila contrary to Ajaero’s statement told newsmen after the closed-door meeting with the leadership of the unions in Abuja yesterday said that the unions have accepted the proposal for palliatives to cushion the effect of the fuel subsidy removal, as announced on Monday by President Bola Tinubu in a nationwide broadcast.
